Invasive Marketing

What do you think of this advertising strategy friends?
Superette is an Auckland boutique chain and they wanted to promote a short shorts sale. DDB, an Auckland based ad agency says in their press note:

"We put indented plates on bus stop, mall, and park benches, so that when people sat down, the message was imprinted on their thighs. This meant that as well as having branded seats, a veritable army of free media was created, with thousands of imprints being created and lasting up to an hour."

So cool! Once again, all credit to my friend Eric. Next time you can write the post by yourself... He might even do so soon...

Johnny Cupcakes

Ever heard of Johnny Cupcakes my German and international friends? He made his way in the fashion industry in the US and still is so down to earth. Great story, great project!! Worthwhile to support!
Thx Eric for sending me the videos!!
"Customers like and appreciate the story and work ethic behind my brand. I started this as a joke from the trunk of my beat up '89 Toyota Camry. A college drop out with a drug and alcohol-free lifestyle, I never wasted my time going out and partying but instead focused only on brainstorming and sketching up my wacky ideas. I turned down investors and took countless risks like keeping my shirts out of chain stores."

Type Love

Friends, you know I love type and good design. Here is one great piece again. A video called Trash Lovers made by Dimo Trifonov.
What they do is that they write on trash, on the streets. Abondened pieces of wood or glass are used as their canvas. As they say on their blog: Making garbage pretty since 2009!

Music made in Berlin

My girlfriend just showed me this song "Nightflight" from her friend Anton.
It is somehow reminding me of Parov Stelar and Paul Kalkbrenner. That is the kind of music I love to hear after a long and hard day on my way home!
Great stuff. Share if you like! That boy's got talent!

Erik Spiekermann - German Type Legend

Erik Spiekermann - Putting Back the Face into Typeface from Gestalten on Vimeo.

"Typographer, graphic designer and businessman Erik Spiekermann has created timeless, influential and, yes, Meta-physical work over the past three decades.

Next to founding MetaDesign and FontShop, the latter being the first ever digital distributor of fonts, and designing more instant classic typefaces than any other, he has been recognized as an outstanding expert internationally as a lecturer and professor.

Listen to the design genius talk about new visual languages, design processes, the analogies of music and typography, and why we need better client culture in our latest Gestalten.tv video and you will easily realize why. Before heading to new visionary pastures, the bike enthusiast will make a short stop to receive the German Design Lifetime Achievement Award 2011 in February."

A store to hang out: Taylor Stitch

Taylor Stitch's “live/work” loft space looks like a good place to hangout. I like the wood, the details on the walls and all the SPACE they have.

TZ's Free Music Post

It is a long time ago I posted some free music. Therefore, today is your day and you can download a Mixtape from J.Period, John Legend and The Roots!

Enjoy!!!

"Hosted by The Roots’ own Black Thought, WAKE UP! RADIO pays tribute to the legacy of soul music that paved the way for WAKE UP! and imagines a world where mainstream radio transmits music with a message. Employing an all-star cast of musical contemporaries (including John Legend & The Roots themselves), J.Period dissects, remixes and rebuilds the original recording sessions from the WAKE UP! album in an unprecedented manner, defying the conventional wisdom of what a “mixtape” can be—producing a full-fledged remix album in the process. The result is a treasure trove of powerful new music, produced and remixed exclusively by J.Period for WAKE UP! RADIO."

Shepard Fairey @ Gestalten.tv

This video is about the artist who drew the HOPE poster from Obamas presidential campaign. Pretty good stuff from the GESTALTEN guys!!

Shepard Fairey - Obey to be Better! from Gestalten on Vimeo.
Introducing the American artist Shepard Fairey is a bit like explaining whose portrait he famously altered for the "Hope" campaign that was widely used by Barack Obama's supporters in 2008. Since the mid 1980s he has created outstanding (then: street) art that is strong, iconic and expressive.
